Produced by Onishka Productions the Indigenous Contemporary Scene (ICS) programme offers a unique creative opportunity for Scottish and Indigenous artists from Kanata to collaborate with one another, to share their distinct cultural knowledge and to provide their unique perspectives on today’s world and the issues Indigenous peoples are facing.
Our Scottish programme takes place over a period of two years, from July 2019 to October 2020, and will kick off in July on The Isle of Arran with the Creators Exchange on the Land. This will bring together a group of 6 Indigenous creators from Turtle Island with 6 Scottish creators, each representing different cultural and linguistic territories in Scotland. During six days, the creators will engage in dialogue, allowing a connection to land, community and ancestry.
Following the Exchange, and in partnership with CanadaHub, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Summerhall, we present an exciting month-long, pan-festival programme of work by the most exciting Indigenous artists from Kanata.
Taking place on the Isle of Arran , the Creators Exchange will bring together a group of Indigenous creators, elders and language keepers from Turtle Island with their Scottish and Gaelic counterparts.
